How do I get my dog to stop snoring?!?

Question by DavidOrtiz: How do I get my dog to stop snoring?!?
I have a big black lab, 3 years old. He sleeps in my room (he has to, so he doesn't eat our Christmas tree. And I can't very well make him sleep in the snow), and he snores really loudly and I can't sleep. How do I make him stop?

You could drown him?

  1. I think that may just be a trait you're gonna have to live with! They can do surgery on him to fix his septom but, if he has normal breathing while awake they usually won't do it.

  2. you really can't, large breed dogs have a tendency to snore. You can call and ask your vet to check his airway to see if its narrow or obstructed but as far as I've been told, its just a large breed dog thing.

  3. Buy ear plugs you can get them in most drug stores.
I don't know if making him move into another position, (like we do with people) will make him stop or not. The ear plugs would work better.

  5. Snoring in a dog can be caused by anything that causes a small blockage in the airway during sleep. One of most common causes for dog snoring is allergy related problems. This can cause post nasal drainage which can precipitate nighttime snoring. Snoring can also be caused by small growth such as polyps in your dog's air passages. Another factor (especially with labs) is that their weight can cause them to snore same as humans. so if he is overweight and its no secret labs are greedy put him on a diet :)

  6. The only thing I can think of is getting ear-plugs. Some dogs just do have the habit to snore. Unless it is a health problem due to allergies o. s. where the Vet could suggest surgery. Had a Pekinese that snored so loud one could hear it outside the house. And my two Rotties do so as well. After a while you might get so used to it you will not even hear it anymore

  7. You can't. I puppy sit my mother in laws dog when she goes out of town and that dog snores like a man. I literally did not get any sleep the first time. The second time, I bought some ear plugs and I didn't hear a thing. Some dogs just snore and there is nothing you can do about it.
