Recently my old man has started snoring EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD. We don't have insurance, so our resources are limited as to what to do. I'm willing to try pretty much any homeopathic remedies, or SOMETHING that is non invasive, as he won't put anything in his mouth. Also, I already take sleep medication, but just in the last week, it's gotten considerably worse.

Try one of those nasal strips, among other things.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately there is no homepathic cure that works. Although a sleep study is expensive, the treatment is relatvely cheap. A CPAP on line is under 500 dollars. TRy and apply for medicaid.
ReplyDeleteSleep apnea is serious. It is deadly untreated.
Try getting him to sleep on his side. Prop pillows behind hm so if he rolls over he will be nudged back onto his side. Buy a cheap humidifier. Make sure he stops drinking milk and eating dairy. It make shim congested ta night and increases snoring. The kind of snoring he is doing is called "heroic" snoring because it is so loud, This kind of snoring has been linked with a 67% increased risk of stroke. Good luck to you.

It depends on what kind of snorer you are. The 3 types are:
ReplyDelete1) Nasal Snorer
2) Throat Snorer
3) Tongue Base Snorer
How to Identify? What's the possible solution?
1) Nasal Snorer - Close Mouth, Cover 1 nostril and breathe in. If you see the other nostril collapse (the skin depresses upon breathing), then you'll need a nasal strip such as Breathe Right.
2) Throat Snorer - Open mouth and make a snoring noise. Then close mouth and make the snoring noise again. If you can only snore with your mouth open then you are a Throat Snorer. The product that helps here is a chin strap to close the mouth when sleeping.
3) Tongue Base Snorer - Stick your tongue out as far as it will go and grip it between your teeth, then make a snoring noise. If the snoring noise is reduced then he’s a Tongue Base Snorer. Try getting him to sleep on his side. It should help. If not, try a mouth piece that holds the snorer's lower jaw in a slightly forward extended position. This moves the base of the tongue away from the back of the airway and the soft palate, removing the obstruction and restoring quiet breathing.
